Nurse now able to help man who saved her 50 years ago
Pennsylvania nurse Karen Terry accidentally reunited with the man that saved her more than 50 years ago -- but this time, their roles are slightly reversed, MSN . When she was four years old, Terry and her brother had gotten lost and were reported missing. Vernon Bair, a pilot, joined the search party from his plane and eventually spotted them.
Terry now works at a skilled nursing facility in Pennsylvania where Bair recently turned up for physical therapy. This is the first time the two have met in-person.
"One good turn deserves another. You help someone, and it will come back," Terry told the publication.
Study: Nurses’ post-discharge calls boost parents’ knowledge of warning signs
A telephone call from a nurse after routine pediatric hospital discharge did not lessen patients’ later use of urgent health care services but did increase parents’ knowledge of clinical warning signs, a study in JAMA Pediatrics found. Researchers used a randomized clinical trial of 966 children discharged from a children’s hospital. A nurse called 442 of their families within four days of their discharge. Those who were called and those who weren’t reutilized urgent care services at the same rate, but parents of children in the intervention group recalled more clinical warning signs at 14 days, AONE .

Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Charter Township, Mich., has named Sheri Underwood chief nursing officer, The Morning Sun . Underwood previously worked at the Studer Group and was vice president of patient care services and CNO at Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care.
USMD Hospital at Fort Worth (Texas) has named Kathy Early CEO and CNO, ABC6 . Early served in those roles in an interim capacity since June. Prior to this, Early was vice president of patient services at USMD Hospital at Arlington.
Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health has named Beth P. Beckman its first-ever chief nursing executive, the organization . Beckman was most recently vice president and CNO of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and was previously COO and CNO of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Grapevine (Texas).
