Leaders of the AHA this week are participating in the International Hospital Federation's 47th annual in Rio de Janeiro, leading a series of panels that include presentations from health care executives and other officials from around the world.

Sept. 10, AHA Chair Joanne Conroy, M.D., president and CEO of Dartmouth Health, moderated a morning panel on what the future looks like for the next generation of health care leaders, as well as an afternoon panel on innovation in models of governance, quality and equity. AHA Executive Vice President and COO Michelle Hood today moderated a panel on advancing sustainability to improve health care globally. Jonathan Perlin, M.D., president and CEO of the Joint Commission, also led panels today on universal, value-based health care systems, and innovations and practices advancing patient safety.

On Sept. 11, AHA Chair-elect Tina Freese Decker, president and CEO of Corewell Health, will moderate a panel on transformative initiatives in different types of health care systems. Corewell Health will also receive the AHA Excellence Award for Healthcare Workers’ Wellbeing. The health system will be honored for the success of its BeWell program, which was designed to support health care workers by consolidating resources across six dimensions of well-being — social, emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and financial — into a single user-friendly platform.
