House caucus examines food insecurity as social determinant of health

The Congressional Social Determinants of Health Caucus yesterday held a briefing on “Addressing Food Insecurity and Nutrition as a SDOH.” Reps. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., Tom Cole, R-Okla., G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., Jim McGovern, D-Mass., and other participants voiced bipartisan support for addressing hunger issues for Americans. Participating on a panel on community-based efforts, Karlen Sandall, from at OSF HealthCare in Illinois, shared how the digital health platform connects patients in need with community-based organizations that can assist them. Participants expect the conversation to continue in September at the , where stakeholders will discuss ideas to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, and reduce diet-related diseases and disparities for millions of Americans.
