The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today issued a to update the payment rates for inpatient psychiatric facilities for fiscal year 2020. CMS proposes a net payment increase of 1.7 percent, or $75 million, compared to FY 2019. This includes a 3.1 percent market-basket update, offset by statutorily required reductions of 1.4 percent. The payment update also reflects the proposed revision and rebasing of the market basket using more recent data. In addition, CMS proposes to add in FY 2021 one quality measure on medication continuation following discharge and requests comment on future topics for measurement. CMS will accept comments on the rule through June 17.
