FDA authorizes second emergency use Ebola test
The Food and Drug Administration has issued an for a rapid, single-use test to detect Ebola virus. The test is the second Ebola fingerstick test to receive an EUA, but the first to use a portable battery-operated reader. 鈥淏y authorizing the first fingerstick test with a portable reader, we hope to better arm health care providers in the field to more quickly detect the virus in patients and improve patient outcomes,鈥 FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., noting that the agency continues to collaborate with federal, international and industry partners to assist in the global response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
