CMS issues FAQs on new price transparency requirementsÂ

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services yesterday released on new requirements for hospitals to publicly post their charges in a machine-readable format on an annual basis. Among other topics, the FAQs address which hospitals the requirements apply to; the definition of machine-readable; and what items and services provided by the hospital are affected by these requirements. CMS included these new requirements in its fiscal year 2019 inpatient prospective payment system rule. See AHA’s comments on CMS’s request for information on this issue.
