The Health Resources and Services Administration this week $285 million to 58 children’s hospitals through its Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education payment program in fiscal year 2017. “CHGME funding enables hospitals to train pediatric residents to meet the needs of our youngest patients, especially vulnerable and underserved children,” said HRSA Administrator George Sigounas. “It also allows hospitals to enhance their research capabilities to stay on the cutting edge of innovation in the field of pediatric medicine and patient services.” The CHGME program funds freestanding children’s hospitals across the country to help them maintain their GME programs that train resident physicians and dentists. In academic year 2015-2016, the program helped train 48% of all general pediatric residents and 53% of all pediatric subspecialty residents and fellows in the U.S.
