The Wall Street Journal today published an AHA  responding to a July 31 op-ed  by a former health policy advisor to the White House, who seemed to argue against hospital participation in efforts to integrate care across the continuum under the Affordable Care Act. “The transformation that hospitals are undergoing is essential to providing patients with high-quality, well-coordinated care, and it’s contributing to lower cost growth,” writes AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “Hospitals are doing this by partnering with physicians and other community partners. Notably, some of the most successful efforts to advance ACA goals have been made by hospital systems with a wide geographic reach…That’s hardly surprising, much less controversial, because systems such as these have an ability to harness data and share proven best practices with real benefits for patients. Additionally, consumers are increasingly focused on access to convenient and coordinated care delivered by a team of professionals.”
