Cyber attack targets health system's food/service payment system, some servers
Cyber attackers recently targeted systems that process payment card data at certain food and beverage outlets at a large health system, a reminder of the ever shifting and evolving cybersecurity threat landscape. The attack on Arizona-based Banner Health also affected some of its computer servers. The health system it “worked quickly to block the attackers and is working to enhance the security of its systems in order to help prevent this from happening in the future.” It also is working with the payment card networks “so banks that issue payment cards can be made aware and initiate heightened monitoring on the affected cards.” The incident did not affect all patients. Monitoring services are being offered to affected patients, health plan members and beneficiaries, health care providers, and food and beverage customers.
