The American Society for Healthcare Engineering today  its inaugural Energy Champion Award to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston and Energy to Care Awards to 29 hospitals for slashing energy use. The Energy to Care program recognizes hospitals that reduce their annual energy use by 10% or more and prior winners who reduce it an additional 5%. Spaulding, part of Partners HealthCare, reduced its energy use last year by nearly 15%. “This year’s Energy Champion exemplifies the amazing efficiencies that can occur when hospital leaders, facility professionals and everyone involved in the health care environment work together,” said Dale Woodin, AHA vice president for personal membership groups. “By reducing energy use in health care facilities, all of the Energy to Care Award recipients have provided value to their organizations while allowing additional resources to be directed toward patient care.” The awards were presented at the association’s Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition in Denver.
