AHA Honors 2016 Award Winners
At last week’s AHA Annual Membership Meeting, the association recognized people and organizations that improve America’s health care. Among the major awards presented at the meeting were:
The Distinguished Service Award. The AHA’s highest honor was presented to William Petasnick, who served as AHA chairman in 2008. The award recognizes significant lifetime contributions and service to the nation’s health care organizations and associations. Watch a on this year’s award recipient.
The Foster G. McGaw Prize. The Foster G. McGaw Prizefor excellence in community service was presented to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Massachusetts General Hospital President and CEO Peter Slavin, M.D., received the award from AHA Chairman-elect Eugene Woods on Tuesday, May 3. View the on the award recipient.
The Award of Honor. The AHA presented its Award of Honor tothe Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of the community through leadership on a major health policy or initiative.
The Board of Trustees Award. Sandra Bennett Bruce, past president and CEO of Presence Health in Chicago, and Mike Rock, M.D., Mayo Clinic Hospitals/Mayo Foundation’s professor of orthopedic surgery and former chief medical officer in Rochester, Minn., received the Board of Trustees Award. The award recognizes individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA.
The Justin Ford Kimball Innovators Award. Dan Wolterman, president and CEO of Memorial Health System in Houston, received the Justin Ford Kimball Innovators Award. The award recognizes people who have developed innovative approaches to health care financing and delivery that improve the coordination of care and access to care.
The Hospital Awards for Volunteer Excellence (HAVE) went to:
• “Doula Volunteer Program,” Sutter Davis Hospital/Sutter Health in Davis, Calif., for Community Service Programs.
• “Storycatcher Program,” Longmont (Colo.) United Hospital for In-Service Hospital Volunteer Programs.
• “Vettes for Vets,” Bradford Veterans Hospital/VA New England Healthcare System in Bedford, Mass., for Fundraising Programs.
• “Community Care Network Health Coaches,” Winona (Minn.) Health for Community Outreach/Collaboration Programs.
