Delaware hospitals contributed more than $275 million in community benefits to the state in fiscal year 2014, an increase of more than $9 million since FY 2011, according to a new report by the Delaware Healthcare Association. The total includes the value of community benefit programs, charity care, bad debt, and payment shortfalls attributed to Medicare, Medicaid and other government-sponsored health insurance. In addition, Delaware hospitals are the second largest source of private-sector jobs in the state, employing 20,363 people in FY 2014, the report notes. “Delaware’s hospitals have a tremendous impact on the health care and economy of the state,” said DHA President and CEO Wayne Smith. “They heal, help and hire within their communities.” For more information, visit .
