The Medicare Rights Center last night Rick Pollack, AHA president and CEO, and Nora Super, executive director of the 2015 White House Conference on Aging, at its annual awards dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of Medicare. “Rick’s effective advocacy on behalf of hospitals and the broader health care community has always been rooted in his deep commitment to the role hospitals play in bringing health care to their communities and – most importantly – to the people they serve,” said Bruce Vladeck, chair of the center’s board of directors and former administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services). In accepting the award, Pollack remarked, “This award truly belongs to all the men and women of America’s hospitals – who work tirelessly every day to care for every single person who comes through their doors – beginning with our seniors, who have provided so much to our country for so many years.” The New York-based center works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs and public policy initiatives. Also receiving special recognition at the dinner was center volunteer Richard Loberfeld.
