Jonathan Perlin, M.D., 2015 chairman of the AHA Board of Trustees, Benjamin Chu, M.D., a previous AHA chairman, and Linda Burnes Bolton, R.N., 2015 president of the AHA’s American Organization of Nurse Executives subsidiary, are among 70 newly elected members of the National Academy of Medicine, formerly the Institute of Medicine, the academy  today. In a statement, AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said, “These individuals have a demonstrated track record of using pioneering approaches to improve health care for millions of people…We salute them for earning one of the highest honors in health care and are proud of their enormous contributions that continue to advance health care in America.” Among other achievements, Pollack noted Perlin’s strong patient safety leadership and commitment to a healthier nation, Chu’s longtime advocacy for timely access to high-quality, patient-centered care, and Burnes Bolton’s dedication to improving cultural diversity and disparities in health care and educating and mentoring the next generation of nurse leaders. Perlin is president of clinical services and chief medical officer at Nashville-based HCA. Chu is regional president of Southern California for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals. Burnes Bolton is vice president and chief nurse executive of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
