AHASTAT blog: Where hospital health plans excel
A recent of just one year and 12 markets found that some provider-sponsored plans had higher premiums than similar plans offered by other carriers, but “that’s not the full story,” writes AHA Executive Vice President Rick Pollack in an AHASTAT today. “Scroll down to the end of the study and you will find the study’s conclusion that provider-owned plans have a ‘reputation for higher quality,’” Pollack notes. “According to the report, ‘provider-owned plans and integrated delivery networks together account for most of the Medicare Advantage plans with the highest [Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services] quality ratings of 5 stars.’ By providing a seamless continuum of care, hospitals and health systems with health plans are meeting the needs of the communities they serve, providing the best quality care for the best value.”
