Practices can apply for Medicare payment model to reduce cardiovascular risk
Hospital-owned physician practices, hospital/physician organizations and other eligible medical practices can apply through Sept. 10 to participate in a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services model that will test whether paying practices to identify and manage cardiovascular risks for Medicare patients reduces heart attacks, strokes and Medicare costs. Practices will use an American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association calculator to measure cardiovascular risk for eligible patients and work with them to identify the best approach to reduce their risk. The five-year model seeks to enroll 720 practices, half of which will serve as a control group. Non-binding letters of intent to apply also are due Sept. 10. For more information, visit .
