The Department of Defense, General Services Administration, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration today released a  intended to support domestic production of products critical to national and economic security. The rule would apply enhanced price preferences to certain critical supply chain products purchased by the federal government and require higher domestic content in products the government purchases under the Buy American Act, as directed by President Biden in a January .  

“As the pandemic made clear, supply chain disruptions can impact the health, safety, and livelihoods of Americans — leaving us without access to critical goods during a crisis,” the White House said in a on the rule. “Some products are simply too important to our national and economic security to be dependent on foreign sources.”

The agencies will accept comments on the rule for 60 days after its publication in the July 30 Federal Register.
