Study: 11.7 million uninsured eligible for Medicaid or Marketplace tax credits
An estimated 11.7 million uninsured Americans are eligible for Medicaid or tax credits to purchase coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplaces, according to a released this week by the Kaiser Family Foundation. That’s about 43% of the more than 27 million Americans under age 65 who remain uninsured, the authors said, noting that the rest are likely ineligible due to income, immigration status or availability of employer coverage. The report updates national and state-level estimates of eligibility for Affordable Care Act coverage options based on the 2016 Current Population Survey and other data. Open enrollment in the 2017 Marketplaces begins Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 31. For coverage starting Jan. 1, consumers must sign up by Dec. 15.
